Drone solar panel inspection: check your installation without climbing on the roof
Dirt, moss, cracked glass, damaged fixings or cables: what a drone inspection can spot on your solar panels, when to have one done and how it works with Skydrone.

Your solar panels work all year round, exposed to rain, wind, leaves and birds. Yet they are rarely looked at closely: they sit on the roof, often out of sight and hard to reach. A drone inspection lets you check their condition in a few minutes, with no ladder, no aerial lift and no walking on the roof.
What can a drone spot?
High-resolution photos and video taken above the installation can reveal soiling (dust, leaves, bird droppings, moss along the edges), visible damage such as cracked glass or a broken or shifted panel after a storm, and fixings, cables and edges that look damaged or loose.
They also show the panels' surroundings: a tree that has grown and now casts shade, a blocked gutter, tiles that have moved around the array. All of these can reduce output without you noticing from the ground.
When should you have your panels inspected?
After a storm or a hailstorm, to check quickly that no panel has been damaged. When output drops for no clear reason, to see whether soiling or visible damage is the cause. Once a year, ideally before spring, to start the season in good shape.
An inspection is also useful once an installation is completed (to keep a record of its initial condition), before selling a property fitted with panels, or to build a file for your insurer or installer if damage occurs.
Why a drone rather than a visit on the roof?
Climbing onto a roof always carries a risk, and walking on or next to the panels can damage them. A drone avoids any contact: it flies over the installation and brings back sharp images of every row. It is quick, needs no scaffolding or aerial lift, and you receive dated photos you can show to a professional.
If the inspection reveals a problem, you know exactly what to ask your installer or a cleaning company, instead of paying for a call-out "just to have a look".
